He stood at the prison gates, still unsure what to make of all of this. He didn't know exactly how it had happened, how all the technicalities had been taken care of.
He didn't know why he was free.
But he was – and every second he paused to remind himself of this made it all seem more real; as if, piece by piece, he was re-making his world, re-forming every image, every sensation.
And he looked out, the road stretching ahead, as it always had. Only now, he could take it, now he could walk it, away from this place, away from the shadow that had covered his life for too long.
The sky was so blue that day; a deep, vibrant azure, arcing overhead, flecked with clouds. Brilliant blue… so intense that it was almost dazzling, as if the whole world was ready to fold in on itself under the pressure of all that colour.
He'd seen it every day, from the other side of the fence, but today, it was brighter, bolder, real and enveloping, as if he'd never really seen it before.
So much weighed on his heart, so heavy that he wondered just how much longer he could keep going, how much longer it would be before the realities of his still-broken life crushed him back down.
Yet in that moment, all that existed was a bright, golden world under a bright, blue sky… and for the time being, that was enough.
Summary: Tony is free at last, and suddenly all the colour is back in the world. [Set pre-Season Four]
