It was early evening in LA, and Tony Almeida was not in CTU. For once, he was outside, bathed in bright sunlight, walking along a street with Michelle Dessler at his side.
Just days previously, the two of them had been instrumental in preventing all of LA being obliterated by a nuclear weapon. And in return, that day had been instrumental in bringing them together, in helping them discover just how much they had come to mean to each other.
Now off-duty, the two of them strolled along, talking and smiling and laughing, all thoughts of their normally stressful and hectic lives pushed aside. They reached the end of a street, looking out across the bay, glittering in the brilliant sunset.
It was beautiful. But then, Michelle turned, the glow catching her eyes, that elegant, loving, almost mischievous sparkle shining there, and it felt as though the whole world should be staring at her in awe.
Whether it did or not, Tony certainly was. When he looked at her, he saw perfection, and warmth, and salvation. He saw not sunset, but sunrise – new hope. An end to the bitter cold of betrayal.
And that, he knew, was beautiful.
Summary: The whole world shines... but she is simply more beautiful than all of it put together. [Tag for Season Two]
